My Web Hosting Provider is Down - Now What?
Ever experience an outage with your web hosting provider? Not a fun experience, and unfortunately it usually takes a massive outage and hit to your business to realize just how important a disaster recovery (DR) solution is for your website. Sure, hosting providers have uptime guarantees and generally do a good job. But what most people don't realize is that when an outage does happen (and it does), the lost business and communication can paralyze an entire business and your uptime guarantee will usually only give you a few bucks back in the form of free or partially free months. Not really an equivalent payback in my book.
What is a business to do, and how can you be prepared for the perfect storm?
Once you recognize the problem there are a few steps that need to be taken, and it all starts with decentralization. As my mother always told me, "never put all your eggs in one basket", and using one company for all the pieces of your hosting infrastructure is asking for someone to come and step on your basket.
What we help our clients do is to segregate the critical components of their hosting infrastructure into...
- DNS Provider (with failover)
- Hosting Provider
- Email Provider
- Monitoring
- Backup Providers
No matter what the size of your company is, we can help implement a backup / disaster recovery solution to keep you up and running in almost any situation.
